FROM THE START

White Coat Brands didn’t begin in a boardroom. It began behind a bar.

After 25 years in hospitality, owning and running bars across the UK — including the last 16 years in Earls Court, Kensington — Chris had seen the drinks industry from the side that matters most: the customer-facing side of the bar.

He knew what operators paid for spirits, what actually sold, what bartenders needed and, just as importantly, where the money disappeared between producer and pour.

So he worked backwards.

Starting with the price a bar could realistically afford, Chris reverse-engineered each product to put as much value as possible into the liquid. Find the best spirit available at the right cost. Keep unnecessary expense out. Then use creativity, storytelling and design to turn that liquid into something people would remember.

That became the White Coat formula: quality liquid, commercially engineered, wrapped in a story worth telling.

Bumps in the road

Making a good spirit is relatively easy. Making a genuinely good spirit at a price that works for a working bar is much harder.

Every part of the process adds cost — liquid, duty, bottles, closures, labels, cartons, transport, storage and distribution. The challenge has always been deciding what adds value to the drink and what simply adds cost.

There have been dead ends, suppliers that didn’t work, margins squeezed almost out of existence and plenty of ideas that looked good on paper but failed the maths.

But the rule remained the same: never solve a pricing problem by sacrificing the liquid.

Instead, White Coat looked harder at how spirits were produced, packaged and moved. Wherever possible, products are UK distilled, blended or crafted, keeping production closer to the market. For working bars, 5-litre Bag-in-Box refills can dramatically reduce the need to repeatedly manufacture, transport and dispose of glass bottles — cutting weight, waste and unnecessary processes while helping keep the price competitive.

The bottle still matters. But it doesn’t need to make the same journey every time.

BUILT TO BE REMEMBERED

White Coat believes people rarely fall in love with a spreadsheet of tasting notes.

They remember a name. A character. An image. A story.

That is why visual branding and storytelling are treated as part of the product itself. From the bold personality of Gnarly Agave to the straight-talking British character of Trader Co Gin, every brand is created to have an immediate identity — something a bartender can talk about and a customer can connect with before the first sip.

White Coat Brands is the result of 25 years spent understanding what really works behind the bar.

Great liquid. Strong stories. Smart design. Less waste. And a price that makes sense when the bottle actually hits the speed rail.
